The Tribe at the Dentist

When the Brinley's do something they do it in bulk quantity. Since there is so many of us it's cheeper and easier that way. But dental work is one of those things that was excluded from our general policy. That is until yesterday when we all went to have our teeth cleaned and checked. It was quiet the experience.

Most of us haven't been to the dentist in many years. I haven't been there in about 13 years. And that was to have two baby teeth filled. As for yesterday I was expecting to just have my teeth cleaned, but more was in store for me. I had all four wisdom teeth pulled, and one small filling done. It was so fascinating to see all that was going on. Every since I was a small fry I've been highly interested in dentistry. Some of this might gross a few of you out, but I loved watching all the stuff going in and out of my mouth. It was neat trying to see how much blood was on Uncle Jeff's gloves and see the rest of the blood going up the suction tub. I've alway been extremely grossed out by even my own blood in cuts and scraps, but its never fazed me in the mouth on me or anyone els. I can't explain why.

As for the rest of my tribe, Emily and Dad just had their teeth cleaned. Lacey didn't have to have anything done since it was recently done when she had her braces on. Mom also had one wisdom tooth removed. And Ashley had such good teeth that she didn't have to have them cleaned. But mother and her are going back in a few weeks to have a cleaning for mother and all four wisdom teeth removed for Ashley. This will be done the day before we leave for ASI. So that will make things a little more interesting.

So that was our most resent episode. Right now I'm rather sore and bruised in the mouth, but I'm surviving. I had that I can't chew anything! Hopefully all this will pass quickly.

  1. Oh Katie!!! I feel for you!! I had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted a year and a half ago, and for me it was a pain-free experience. (except for eating because it was painful trying to open my mouth wide enough to put the fork in!) :) But my advise to you is swish with a lot of salt water (to help you not get an infection) use a lot of ice, and use ibuprofen. And with that, I actually had an enjoyable experience! :D I can't believe though, that you had all your wisdom teeth out without general anesthesia! (without being put to sleep) To me, it seems like I would have had a heart attack if I were awake during that procedure seeing the shots come at me, the knife, periosteal elevator, forceps... *(shivers)!* I find it fascinating watching it done on other people, but I don't think I could on myself! :) I'm so glad though, that you thought watching it was an enjoyable experience!! Otherwise, it could be pretty scary! :) :) :) Looking forward to seeing you guys soon!
